Transformers Universe is shutting down

18/12/2014 10:35:00

Hasbro and developer Jagex Games Studio are shutting down Transformers Universe, their third-person shooter MOBA game, early next year.

"We're hugely disappointed, but the game will be closing over the coming weeks," the developer said in an announcement, confirming that Transformers Universe will fully shut down on Jan. 31, 2015.

"This decision comes at an important time for both companies as they both realign their plans and focuses for 2015."

Transformers Universe is a multiplayer tactical arena game that blends third-person shooter combat with mechanics inspired by MOBA games like League of Legends and Dota 2. The online game has been in an open beta since July.

Jagex is refunding players who purchased the game's Founders Packs  or other items, including relic bundles and starter packs. Jagex is also closing the ability for new players to make accounts and switch off the ability for existing players to buy relic packs and starter bundles.

The game's servers and forums will go offline at 10 a.m. GMT on Jan. 31.

Transformers Universe was officially announced at Botcon 2011, the annual Transformers convention. The game was originally designed as a massively multiplayer online game in the vein of EverQuest and World of Warcraft, but changed direction in 2012 and was redesigned as a MOBA-style game to better fit the Transformers brand.
