Crytek closing down Warface on Xbox 360 in February
Warface, Crytek's free-to-play first-person shooter, will shut down Feb. 1 on Xbox 360, ending its only console version after a run of less than 10 months.
Crytek already has closed the game to new players, the studio announced on its official Facebook page yesterday. Existing players still are able to play the game and use any content they have acquired until it closes, but no one may purchase additional "Kredits," Warface's in-game currency.
"To all our Xbox 360 players, thank you for choosing to spend your time playing Warface — and we hope you'll become part of the vibrant community enjoying regular new content and Co-op and Versus action — subscription free — on PC," Crytek wrote.
Warface launched on PC in October 2013 and on Xbox 360 in mid-April. This summer, Crytek suffered extreme financial difficulties as it changed its focus from developing packaged goods for PC and consoles to becoming an online publisher. An anonymous benefactor was needed in order for the Germany-based studio to meet payroll.
