Chinese team Newbee wins Dota 2 championship
Chinese-based e-sports team Newbee eSports Club snagged the top prize at The International Dota 2 Championship in Seattle on Monday.
Newbee defeated ViCi Gaming three matches to one in the best-of-five championship, earning a $5 million first-place prize. The five-member team will take home $1 million a piece.
After dropping the first game to ViCi, Newbee stormed back, claiming the next three games en route to victory. Runner-ups ViCi don't go home empty-handed. The team will split a second-place prize totaling nearly $1.5 million.
This is the fourth year of The International Dota 2 Championship, hosted by the game's creator, Valve Software.
For the first time, ESPN carried the Dota 2 Championships on its network. The tournament was available through the ESPN3 streaming channel, and a finals preview aired on ESPN 2.
